Dispatch From Port-au-Prince
Jonathan Denby |
June 20, 2010 June 18, 2010 - Landed in Port-au-Prince today around 12:30 pm. My traveling companion and I were whisked from the airport and into the hills overlooking the city in the neighborhood of Pernier. We later drove into downtown where most of the destruction was concentrated. There are still many buildings destroyed, although the roads are now passable. Countless bodies still lay entombed in these ruins.
In the evening we drove into the Camp Sineas refugee camp. It is maintained by the Red Cross. I walked among the countless tents taking pictures and speaking to people. The conditions are terrible and will grow only worse with the onset of the rainy season and hurricains.
Pictures in the near future.
